Welcome to the Northern Cotes du Rhone french wine region, homeland of the famous Shiraz & Viognier grapes varietals! After a 25 min transfer by minivan, discover along this half day wine tour from Lyon, one of the oldest and steepest vineyards in the France starting under Roman times! After a stop in Vienne City, do some wine-tasting at two family wineries and enjoy Cote Rotie, Condrieu & St Joseph wines considered among the most prestigious Cotes du Rhone names.

Vienne City, Cote Rotie and Condrieu Wines

At 2:00 pm, your 8-seater minibus leaves Bellecour Square in Lyon to the Northern Cotes du Rhone wine region. En route, stop in Vienne city to enjoy a spectacular view on the 2000 year’s old roman theatre and the stunning panorama on the Rhone Valley. With your Lyon wine guide, learn about "terroir", the geography, Cote Rotie, Condrieu and St Joseph wine appellations.

Then, cross Ampuis town, the world capital of Shiraz grape and visit "Cote Rotie" vineyards literally "roasted hillside". Drive on the precipitous vertigo inducing terraced slopes of "Cote Brune" and "Cote Blonde" and appreciate the 30 to 60 degree angles hills bathed in sun facing the beautiful Rhône River.

Later drive through Condrieu, birth town of Viognier grape which produces the world famous Cotes du Rhone white wine. The group will get to know its unique story, how this grape varietal almost died a few years ago.

Push the door of a first family Cotes du Rhone winery and enjoy a private tour: learn some secrets about the unique Rhone wine-making savoir-faire and the art of wine barrel aging.

Then, taste 5 different Cotes du Rhone wines among them, some Condrieu, St Joseph or/and Cote Rotie crus appellations.

Finally, stop at a second winery to delight yourself with another 5 beautiful Rhone wines: take time to enjoy the intense aromatic Viognier and the quasi absolute perfection of Shiraz grape of the Northern Cotes du Rhone wine in their original terroir.

We visited Lyon in October 2018 and booked this tour to see some of the nearby wine regions and try our hand at wine tasting. The tour was surprisingly good, with a knowledgeable and very friendly guide. We visited several vineyards and tasted lots of good wines. It's exciting to hear about the history of the Syrah grape and to visit the region that is supposed to be the origin of this wonderful grape :)

We did the half day tour of Côtes du Rhône. It was the best wine tour we have been on, as Olivier shared his expertise in a nice way, but did not overwhelm us with information. It was a great balance. And we appreciated his careful driving. We will definitely plan another trip with Olivier in the future.

We spent the day on an eight-person tour of the northern Côtes du Rhône, visiting three wineries with Kanpai Tours led by Olivier. It was a wonderful experience full of detailed information about the region, the vineyards and the wines produced in the area. Olivier is very knowledgeable but conveys information in a relaxed and understandable way. The highlights for me were the intimate walk through a vineyard and discussion with its owner, as well as the great wine we tasted throughout the day. A great way to spend a day, I highly recommend this tour.

We had such a great wine tour experience led by Olivier of Kanpai Tourisme! We are a family of seven who were visiting Lyon from San Francisco/Boston and we were interested in exploring the Côtes du Rhône region. The afternoon tour took us through some beautiful sites in the northern part of the region, and we tried Syrahs and Viogniers from two great wineries. It was such an educational, scenic, and fun afternoon. Olivier was a very knowledgeable and friendly tour guide. We couldn't have asked for a better experience!
