Beaujolais Wine Route: Tasting the Crus and Discovering the Terroirs

At 9:00 am, your 8-seater minibus departs from Place Bellecour in Lyon to the Northern Beaujolais, the famous CRUS wine region. Begin the journey along the scenic Beaujolais "Route des Vins", and with your guide, learn about the terroir (the French philosophy of wine) and the unique characteristics of the Beaujolais CRUS wine appellations.

Drive through the Moulin-à-Vent CRUS, marked by its iconic 15th-century windmill surrounded by vineyards. In this part of Beaujolais, vines grow on granite soils with veins of manganese, producing more tannic and structured wines.

Then, climb to La Madone Chapel in Fleurie and enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the Beaujolais wine region. On clear days, you may even spot the Alps and Mont Blanc!

Wine Tasting

Discover a Beaujolais Château Estate and Local Family Winery

Step through the door of a Beaujolais Château Wine Estate and enter a magnificent cellar filled with oak barrels. In this stunning setting, taste several Beaujolais CRUS wines and discuss their characteristics, balance, and complexity with your knowledgeable guide.

Then, continue along the Beaujolais wine route to reach a small family-run winery, handed down through several generations.

Meet a passionate winemaker, learn about the unique Beaujolais wine-making process called semi-carbonic maceration, and finally head to the wine-tasting room (“caveau”).

Conclude this morning wine tour with a second tasting of several CRUS wines in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

We had a great time. Really enjoyed both wineries and Olivier was very knowledgeable. We also stopped for scenic views along the way. There were 8 of us so the van was full. Everyone had a seat but you will get close with your fellow passengers. It was definitely more wineries than castles as a couple were pointed out on the way, but the Wine tour is what I wanted.

We decided have a wine tour on our 4 days stay at Lyon. We didn’t have too much time so we looked for a half day tour.
Oliveier was very nice from the first e-mail to the very end of our tour.
His English is excellent and his knowledge and passion to wine is tremendous.
It was nice to meet local winners and actually see the whole process of wine making.

It was such a fun tour, nobody should miss it. Olivier took us to private vineyards where the owner himself talked to us about the entire process from planting the grapes, to drinking the wine. Overall, it was a lovely experience, and I recommend it to everyone.
