Morning

Southern Burgundy Wine Tour: Vineyards & Pouilly-Fuissé Tasting

At 9:00 am, your comfortable 8-seater minibus departs from Place Bellecour in Lyon for the South of Burgundy.

After a 40-minute drive north of Lyon, follow the magnificent Burgundy wine route and explore the end of the Beaujolais region, with its breathtaking landscapes and granite terroirs.

Continue through the Mâcon vineyards, birthplace of the Chardonnay grape, passing several charming villages built in ocher stone, including Saint-Véran, Leynes, Fuissé, and more.

At 10:45 am, visit a family-run wine estate. Discover its history, learn about wine-making, and explore the art of barrel aging.

Then, enjoy a tasting of several white and red wines, including the renowned Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. Experience the finesse, freshness, and perfect balance of these wines, with their delicate oaky finish.

Continue your wine tour with a stop at the iconic Roche de Solutré (493 m). Admire this natural “Sphinx,” a true symbol of Southern Burgundy, before heading to Cluny for lunch.

Stroll Through Cluny and Wine Tasting at a Château winery

In the early afternoon, enjoy a stroll through the charming streets of Cluny, a town world-famous for its historic abbey.

Accompanied by your guide, discover the former site of the Abbey of Cluny, learn about its history, and understand how the town profoundly influenced Burgundian viticulture, Burgundy wines, and shaped the region’s terroir identity over the centuries.

Then continue along the Burgundy South Wine Route to a charming wine château, producing wines made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes.

With your guide, visit the vaulted cellar and the winemaking facilities, followed by a tasting of 6 wines in a friendly and authentic atmosphere.

Take time to savor these Burgundy wines, renowned for their fruity aromas, aromatic complexity, and long finish on the palate.

Return to Lyon in the late afternoon, with an expected arrival around 5:30 PM.

Olivier is an amazing host and genuinely a wonderful person. His tour company came highly recommended by our 5 star hotel. I found Olivier’s to be very reasonably priced for what I would ordinarily expect. However, Olivier’s tour is not ordinary at all. He spent the time to understand what we wanted to see and what was really important for us. He personalized the full-day tour, including special stops and wineries, and even went beyond what I’d ever expect by researching and translating information about a very particular aspect of the tour we had a deep interested in. On tour day, he arrived early, his English is very good, and he made sure that everything was translated for us. He had a fully packed schedule for us, yet at no time did any aspect of the day feel rushed or as if we were on a purposely timed schedule. He seems to know all of the winery owners personally and knows the roads around Beaujolais very well. I highly recommend touring with Olivier, and I look forward to doing another tour with him next time we’re in the region.

Our trip with Olivier was a wonderful surprise. His knowledge of the Beaujolais area, and the wines of the area was extensive. The two wineries he chose for us to visit were interesting. The first was hosted by a very talented yet humble winemaker, and at the second Olivier led us through the wines himself. As it happened we were a convivial group of seven, and the lunch we shared at the restaurant chosen by Olivier was delightful. We learned a lot, and appreciated being driven by a careful and knowledgeable driver.

We booked a full day tour with Kanpai as recommended by the concierge at our hotel and it was one of the best days of our vacation. Olivier was extremely knowledgeable about the region and wines and provided excellent narrative during our tastings. Its clear hes passionate about this topic. He also took us to a local restaurant for lunch where we had an excellent meal at a place we wouldn't have found on our own. I would consider no visit to Lyon complete without doing a wine tour with Kanpai!
