SHOPPING:

The City of Lyon offers a wide range of facilities and areas to do some good shopping, whatever you are looking for:

La Part Dieu:
Located at the bottom of Credit Lyonnais Tower in the Business District Centre, La Part Dieu’s shopping centre houses over 260 stores (Galeries Lafayette, La Fnac, Go Sport, etc.), some cinemas, restaurants, etc. La Part Dieu is the biggest shopping centre in Lyon, so you need at least 3 or 4 hours to discover it!

Victor Hugo and Republique Streets in Presqu’ile area:
these two pedestrian streets both perpendicular to Bellecour Square feature around 100 shops, chain stores and boutiques.

Edouard Herriot Street in Presqu’ile area: in the middle of the “Carré d’Or” area, this street host luxury boutique as Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Cartier, Dior, etc.

La Cité des Antiquaires: located 117 Stalingrad Boulevard in Villeurbanne (Close by Tête d’Or Park), this place is a paradise for antic lovers: furniture, paintings, sculptures, ceramics, bronzes, lights, etc. This 4000 square metres modern building opens its doors on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 7 pm and Fridays from 2 pm to 7 pm.

Flee Market (Marché aux puces):
located 1, rue du Canal in Villeurbanne, go hunting the bargain or just experience the unique “trading atmosphere” of this flee market on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays mornings.




GOING OUT IDEAS:

Lyon Opera House
Located Place de la Comedie near Terreaux Square, Lyon’s Opera House was built between 1756 and 1832 to cater to the growing popularity of opera at the end of the 18th century. It was totally restored by Jean Nouvel between 1985 & 1993 to wed the past to future and reach a capacity about 1,100 seats. The architect preserved the original structure and the four outer neoclassical facades and added new modern infrastructures with five levels hosted below ground and six top levels capped within a semi-cylindrical glass roof.
The Opera of Lyon is very active on Lyon’s artistic scene with classic, romantic, baroque and contemporary programmes, and also Opera ballets, symphonic concerts, recitals and jazz concert, etc.

Maison de la Danse
Established since 1980, Lyon Maison de la Danse was the first one to be opened in France. In September 1992, Maison de la Danse moved to 8th District Theatre (Theatre du 8e arrondissement) for a bigger stage with 1,100 seats to respond to its growing success. Nowadays, The Maison de la Danse gives an average of 200 performances a year with dance companies from all over the world.

Cinema / Theatre
Located 40, street Edouard Herriot near Terreaux Square, The CNP Terreaux cinema shows most of its movies in original version. When you visit Lyon centre, don’t hesitate to stop and have a look at the programme.

Olympique Lyonnais Football / Soccer Matchs
Lyon football / Soccer team is today one of the strongest teams in France and among the major ones in Europe. The Olympic Lyonnais won 7 French leagues since the beginning of the millennium and each game in Lyon is the opportunity for a big sport show and a great stadium atmosphere (40 000 seats). Check the calendar and go support the Olympic Lyonnais team at Gerland Stadium!
