THE BEAUJOLAIS

"CRUS"

In the first century B.C, the wine of Vienne was highly reputed in Rome. Nowadays, it's famous world wide. The Rhône River has been carving out its valley for millennia to create a hilly and tortuous landscape. The vineyards grow on vertigo inducing slopes, providing a striking vista. Suddenly, one realizes the courage and effort of the wine-makers to bring us these great wines.

Syrah is the vine variety for red wine. Viognier is used to produce Condrieu and Château Grillet. The St Joseph wine can be found a few kilometres to the south.

Beaujolais owes its name to the dynasty of the Sires of Beaujeu (957-1400) who ran this territory located between the Lyonnais and Mâconnais regions. The best place to admire the beauty of the Beaujolais “Crus” is from the Brouilly Mountain. From there, you can catch sight of the picturesque villages surrounded by vineyards with the Saône River meandering in the background.

You will sample some of the 10 Beaujolais Crus: St Amour, Chénas, Chiroubles, Juliénas, Moulin à Vent, Régnié, Fleurie, Morgon, Brouilly and Côtes de Brouilly.

BEAUJOLAIS

GOLDEN STONES

HERMITAGE,

CORNAS, ST PÉRAY

The Gold Stones Region looks like the Italian Toscana with its rolling fields and beautiful countryside. During past centuries, man extracted the golden stone of this region to build the local houses, churches and castles.

The Gamay is the vine variety for Beaujolais. It grows here on a limestone ground giving birth to the Beaujolais Nouveau and Beaujolais Village, famous wines exported to the 5 continents.

The region located between Tain-l'Hermitage and Valence has been famous since the 17th century thanks to its red and white wines. The Hermitage wines are more “male” than the Côte Rôtie ones. The Cornas is even stronger in tannin while the St Péray, a white wine, is produced following the Champagne method.

Syrah is the only vine variety allowed for red wines. Marsanne and Roussanne are the two vine varieties for white wines.
